Household Hazardous Waste

 Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Disposal - No Commercial/Institutional Waste Accepted

If it’s poisonous, corrosive or flammable, it’s Household Hazardous Waste and does not go in the garbage. Residents can drop off HHW at the Pictou County Solid Waste Management Facility, Mount William - Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. & Saturdays 8 a.m. - 12 Noon. There is no disposal fee for these items.

Paints, Stains, Batteries, Poisons, Solvents, Strippers, Asphalt Sealer, Fluorescent Bulbs, CFL's, Glues, Adhesives, Cleaners, Waxes, Gasoline, Kerosene, Lawn & Garden Chemicals, Pool Chemicals, Automotive Fluids, Antifreeze, Motor Oil, Small & Large Propane Tanks, Aerosol Cans Containing Unused Product - (Empty Cans are Garbage) Items Containing Mercury


Needles, Sharps (See Special Instructions Below)*Radioactive Materials, Explosives, Ammunition, Fireworks, Flares, Pathological Waste, Commercial Waste, PCB's

*Used needles and sharps must be returned to a pharmacy for proper disposal. Ask your pharmacist for a free 'SHARPS CONTAINER'.
