I have the best job! I take all the organic material that you place at the curb and turn it into compost. Everything from table scraps to pizza boxes. People come in droves for it during our annual compost giveaway ‘cause it’s good for the garden.
I love to garden myself, I can’t get enough of those grass clippings, fallen leaves and twigs. If it grows in nature, it makes my favourites list. Maybe that’s why they call me “earthy”. But I have my limits. I’m not into ashes or pet poop…and I’m really allergic to plastic.
Cartright FYI
Fave Food: table scraps. In fact, I love them so much that I sometimes even catch myself eating the paper containers the food came in—pizza boxes are awesome!
Allergy Alert!: I will get seriously ill if I come in contact with plastic
Secret Passion: I think laundry detergent boxes and wrapping paper have some of the coolest artwork I’ve ever seen…bring it on!
Likes: waxed paper and wooden stir sticks
Dislikes: dryer sheets, ashes and pet poop
Pet Peeve: biodegradable plastic…it gets stuck in the shredders!
Cartright Facts
All your organics are processed into compost right here at the PCSW facility, in 2008 that was 6,000 tonnes! Every May our annual compost giveaway takes place during Compost Week. Pictou County residents can pick up 2 free bags of compost. But if you miss it, don’t worry, there’s always lots available for sale.
