Pictou County Solid Waste is dedicated to reducing waste in our homes, businesses and communities. We work very closely Pictou County citizens. Through education, we promote proper sorting and participation in all of our programs. Listed below are some of the educational services that we provide.
School Visits:
We offer educational and interactive presentations to fit any grade level. We always enjoy the opportunity to speak with children! Depending on availability, we are able to take Moby S. Loop, the RRFB recycling robot, for our presentations. Call our waste reduction hotline to arrange for your school visit.

Information Booths:
In an effort to promote our local programs and waste reduction information, our staff is happy to provide an information booth at your special events. We will gear the booth toward your audience and make it as interactive and educational as possible. Some of the events we have participated in the past are: the local Home Shows, Exhibitions, and community fun days. Call today to book a date!

Special Event Greening:
If you are hosting a special event this summer, it is important that waste management be included in your planning. It is the law in Nova Scotia that all public events offer proper containers for the public to sort their waste. We can help! Contact our office for your “Event Greening Guide” that will offer tips for managing waste. Pictou County Solid Waste can lend you our sorting containers, they will help the public to properly sort waste into refundables, compostables and garbage. These containers are limited, so call as soon as possible to arrange your dates.
Community Clean-ups:
Pictou County Solid Waste is always interested in your community clean ups. If time is available, we will often try to participate with your group. We have worked on the “Get Clean – Go Green” campaign, and have also worked with West Pictou School on their annual “Beach Sweeps”. Whether you are part of a community organization or a concerned individual, if you have an area that you would like to clean up, contact us, we may be able to help. We can also refer you to “Clean Nova Scotia”- they will often provide supplies such as bags, gloves, and data sheets. Group Presentations: Our staff offer presentations and workshops to all types of organizations – nursery schools, girl guides, women's institutes, and church groups to name a few. We are very flexible and will arrange times at your convenience. If your group is interested in learning more about our waste management programs, please call our office to arrange a time.
