Re: July 1st Holiday: Blue Bag Recycling/ Organics / Clear Bag Garbage
Residents who normally have collection on Wednesday, July 1st ,will have their blue bags, organics & clear bag garbage collection on Saturday, July 4th. Material must be out by 7 a.m. to ensure collection. For more information call the Waste Reduction Hotline at 396-1495.

In Jan. 2006, the municipalities of Pictou County adopted a Clear Bag Garbage- Blue Bag Recycling Program. This means that all residential and business waste will no longer be collected in solid black or green bags. Regular waste will be collected in clear, transparent bags. For privacy issues, residents will be permitted one solid black or green bag no larger than 26” x 36” for personal waste. Papers and containers for recycling will only be collected in blue transparent bags. This makes it easier for the haulers to identify the recycling from the regular waste. Keep in mind the only change to this program was the color of the bags! Clear bags will increase the volume of recycling and organics, save natural resources and valuable landfill space. It will also ensure that everyone complies with the Provincial Bans and Regulations. Random waste audits are conducted at both curbside and at the Transfer Station to ensure compliance.
